Part 2 - Navigating Recruitment Options in a Stormy Economic Climate
In this article, Part 2 of a 3 part series, we look at the relative benefits associated with gaining help with recruitment from a typical agency and ask whether the fees charged are worthwhile.
There are many benefits associated with using an agency to find the person on your behalf. You spend minimal amounts of time briefing them and then simply view the candidates they send your way. Sounds appealing, but can it really be that simple?
In practice however, working with recruitment agencies often requires more time and effort than first anticipated and can often be a very expensive option. Firstly you will need to find an agency you trust and one who is able to deliver. It is proven that it is more effect to use agencies who specialises in your industry as they should have enough suitable candidates on their database who are easily available and if not they should know where to find them.
Then you need to think about service levels you require. Depending on the agency, the screening process may not be comprehensive enough to establish a strong match. For example some agencies only telephone interview and never meet the candidate face to face, let alone check eligibility to work in the UK. This in turn can lead to ineffective hires, resulting in loss of productivity and time invested when inducting the candidate into your business.
Once everything is set up you then need to agree pricing. The cost of this service could typically be 25% of the employee’s annual salary, that’s £5,500 + vat for a employee on £22,000 per annum.
Does your organisation have the budget for these types of costs?
In Part 3 we go on to discuss the merits of using an online jobboard to advertise your roles and show how they are able to not only massively cut costs but can vastly reduce recruitment times whilst also introducing a level of control and visibility that is simply not possible with any other medium.
